15 useful activities that are actually worth your time

15 useful activities that are actually worth yur time15 useful activities that are actually worth your timeOur time on this planet is limited. Most of us realize that sooner or later. And yet, we keep on squandering our time and running around in circles. Why is it that we waste so much of our time? Most people think that we, humans, dont understand the value of time.I dont think thats the problem. You and I both know the value of time. Its a depletable resource. By that definition, the value of time is high.So if the problem is not our appreciation of time, whats the cause of a waste of time and potential? The answer is obvious We simply dont know what to do with our time. The stoic philosopher Seneca famously said in On The Shortness Of LifeIt is not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot ofit. Most of us read that and get a temporary boost Wow, I need to value my time and stop wasting it.You know what we do next?We open Instagram and waste 42 minutes on consumings hit. We go out for coffee for the7thtime this week. We play video games for 2 hoursstraight. We gossip on the phone for55minutes.Ask yourself Are the things that Im doingworthmy time? Ive done that. And most of the things I did simply were not. But distinguishing wasteful activities from worthwhile activities is hard.As an exercise, I recommend everyone to sit down and think aboutwhatactivities are worth your time. This is a personal exercise. Everybody values different things. To give you an idea of how I spend my time, Ive made a list of 15 activities that I consider worthwhile.Working out- I especially likestrength trainingbecause being strong is one of the most useful things in life. Sitting behind your desk for hours, going shopping, traveling - your life will be a lot easier when youre physically strong.Spending time with people you love- It doesnt really matter what you do. Its more about being around people you genuinely care about. That will lift your spirits and give yo u energy.Learning how your body works- Everybody should know how their body functions. I also like to read about the latest scientific research about health and fitness.Journaling- Its always nice to sit down at the end of a day and reflect. What did I do today? What did I learn? What am I going to do tomorrow? Answering those questions is the best time youll spend every day.Learning a skill- Always be learning a new skill. I started practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu a while back. I go to class every week and I constantly learn from YouTube videos. I always want to learn a new skill because it reminds me thatIm always a student.Making a financial strategy- I like to read and hear about investing strategies of different people. Even though I consider myself a value investor, I totenstill look at what day traders do. Im interested in finance because I dont want to waste my hard-earned money.Watching good movies/tv shows- I sometimes make fun of people who binge watch tv shows. I thi nk thats a waste of your day. But I love movies and good shows. They can give you inspiration too.Listening to music- I listen to music a lot. It gives me inspiration and energy. The best thing is to listen music that fits your mood.Reading- I start and close my day with reading. And I never miss a day.Talking about life- Its nice to have a good conversation with someone who has the same mindset as you. Ive grown to hate shallow conversations. So I dont waste my time anymore on people who I dont have a deep connection with.Going to the sauna- I do this twice a week. Its apparently good for you. But thats not why I go. I love the heat and quiet. The time I spend in the sauna is like meditation to me.Discovering new books- I can spend hours browsing books that I want to read. But I try to not overdo it. Otherwise, youre reading more ABOUT books than reading actual books.Watching sports - I used to play basketball and I still enjoy watching it. But I only follow the NBA, not all p rofessional sports.Laughing- I love some good banter. Life is hard and if you dont laugh about yourself, you only make it harder.Working on your goals- Every minute you spend on advancing your lifeis time you dont regret spending. At the end of a day, you must look back and think to yourself, If this was my last day, Im okay with that. Can you honestly say that? Look, its not about living every day like its your last. If everybody did that, we would have total anarchy.Instead, make sure you spend your time well. Are you proud of how youre spending your days? Answer yes, and youll never live with regrets.Thisarticlefirst appeared on DariusForoux.com.

Even toddlers know when someones being a leader or a bully

Even toddlers know when someones being a leader or a bullyEven toddlers know when someones being a leader or a bullyStrategists have long wondered whether its better to be loved or feared, and three psychology professors may have finally arrived at the answer.According to a recent study,21-month-old infants appear to differentiate between two forms of social power Respect and fear. So which one is more effective? The science behind itTo conduct the study, the academics had toddlers watch either bullies or leaders tell people to perform a task. Based on how long the toddlers watched each interaction, they seemed to expect people to obey leaders. In contrast, the babies were torn about whether people would follow the orders of a bully after he left the room and no longer posed an imminent threat. The end resultFrom ansicht observations, the studys authors concluded that infants distinguish between leaders and bullies, and infants expected the protagonists to continue to obey the leaders order after she left the scene, but they expected the protagonists to obey the bullys order only when she remained present. That seems like a lot to extrapolate from a gaze, but theyre the experts. If these findings are true, Niccolo Machiavelli is likely rolling in his grave. But even if they arent, a new wave of workplace consciousness means its time to rethink power dynamics and how people at the top treat employees beneath them.So even if a toddler isnt watching, its probably best to aim for respect instead of fear. After all, nobody likes a bully.

4 Bad Work Habits that can Lead to Termination

4 Bad Work Habits that can Lead to Termination 4 Bad Work Habits that can Lead to Termination 1. Any method employed to complain about your anfhrer or your job is bad. Despite the veneer of privacy felt when using email or social media, anything you send or receive through company communications equipment is subject to review and can be formally used against you in disciplinary hearings. Considering the fact that 15 percent of company emails are gossip, it is likely that you are exchanging electronic messages with coworkers that could be damaging to your career. If you find yourself a part of the workplace gossip mill, make it a rule to remove yourself from the circumstances and avoid venting your frustrations from any company-owned devices.2. An inability to gracefully accept criticism can reflect poorly on your job handling skills. Becoming openly angry or offensive at any negative feedback directly makes your boss job more difficult, potentially leading him or her to stop sharin g constructive feedback with you. This will immediately affect your ability to continue progressing in your job and moving ahead in your career since your boss will be much less likely to recommend you for promotions or new business initiatives.3. Another negative behavior that can lead to a frustrated and unimpressed boss is slacking off. While on the job, never forget that the workplace is an atmosphere of competition and simply doing the minimum work to get your job done is never acceptable. There are always other people willing to go beyond the job requirements and no one is indispensable on the job. Furthermore, wasting your companys time by taking long lunch breaks or using your work time to perform personal errands strongly reflects a lack of dedication to your job and a willingness to steal valuable resources from the employer.4. One of the more egregious work habits that can be unintentionally adopted is hiding things from your boss. It could be a missed deadline or poor cu stomer feedback, but whatever it is, hiding things from your boss will only make the situation worse. Even if you think you have the situation under control, keeping information from your boss will only make the problem worse if it escalates and your boss will lose his/her trust in you if the person is forced to find out about the withheld information on his/her own.
